The Salinas salt pans are located in the Sacred Valley near Cusco, Peru. They have been used since the time of the Incas to extract salt from a hot-spring pouring out of the mountain side. The salt pans are artifical and the salty water is diverted to each pan and evaporation takes care of the rest. Once dry the salt is scraped, air-dried and put into sacks for transport. The salt is used for animal feed.
